It portrays the character of Sidney, a student in the town of Woodsboro, who is the target of the mysterious killer Ghostface. She is accompanied by her boyfriend Billy, Randy Meeks, deputy sheriff Riley and news reporter Gale Weathers. The film was the only one of its kind at the time of its release, combining the violence of the slasher films with elements of comedy and mystery, placing suspicion on many of the film's characters. The film was originally called Scary Movie but was developed into Scream by the director Wes Craven. It went on to win numerous awards and became Americas highest earning slasher film, estimated at around $173 million.
